St. Lucia Hewanorra International Airport (UVF)
Travel and Ground Transport
(Vieux Fort, St Lucia)
St. Lucia Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) has a fairly basic ground transport infrastructure. Passengers will find buses comprise the only public transport option and may want to consider hiring a car as a more convenient option for both transfer between the airport and resort and for getting around the island.
Taxis are ultimately most convenient and available option for leaving the airport and there are plenty of them.
Public buses run from the East Coast road just outside the airport to a variety of St. Lucia destinations, though their frequency is not often. This really isn't a practical option as the bus service is a token one and mini buses are the usual means of getting from the airport. What you plan to save on cost will be lost by the long wait and lack of information you might have to deal with. Minibus share is common and acceptable.
There are no shuttle buses available from the airport, except those provided by your hotel. In fact this is a common way for package visitors to leave the airport. Ask your hotel to arrange a transfer for you to avoid haggling with unscrupulous taxi drivers.
Large hotels generally offer shuttles between the airport and their establishments. Passengers are advised to check the availability of such services with their proposed hotel ahead of arrival at the airport. The cost of a taxi ride might seem unreasonable because the airport is up to an hour from Rodney Bay and traverses the ridge of hills along the centre of the island.
Taxis are available from just outside the airport terminal building. As the island is small, passengers will find journeys to most destinations can be made within an hour. Usually a set fee of US$20 applies and this has remained so for several years so is unlikely to change.
There are no specific limousine companies operating from the airport however the Sixt car hire company (+758 452 0544) can provide limousine services by prior arrangement.
